ChapterKeep stores your audiobook library on your device. Optional iCloud progress sync and online discovery features send some information to external services, as described below.
ChapterKeep is developed by Kevin Chaves. This policy describes the app’s data handling. No ChapterKeep account is required.
Information stored on your device
The app stores imported audio, artwork, book information, listening positions and sessions, bookmarks, saved quotes, ratings, reviews, preferences, and archived book records in its local storage. This information supports playback, library organization, listening statistics, and personalized suggestions.
ChapterKeep does not operate a developer-hosted library server and does not include an advertising or third-party analytics SDK. Device backups are separate from ChapterKeep’s progress-sync feature and may include app data depending on your Apple settings.
iCloud listening-position sync
“Sync listening position” is enabled by default and can be disabled in Settings. When enabled and available, the app uses Apple’s private CloudKit storage and iCloud key-value storage to share listening progress between your devices.
Synced information includes a book-matching identifier derived from file or book metadata, title, author, playback position, duration, listening status, and update time. Per-device progress records also include a randomly generated app device identifier and device type, such as iPhone or iPad. This is not an advertising identifier.
The progress-sync feature does not upload or transfer your audiobook audio files. Disabling sync stops future syncing but does not delete existing iCloud records. The app currently has no control for erasing all synced progress. Apple manages iCloud account storage under its own terms and privacy practices.
Cover searches and book suggestions
Opening cover search sends title and author queries to Google Books and Open Library. Selecting or displaying online artwork requests images from the providers’ image servers.
Picks can request online suggestions from Apple Books, Google Books, and Open Library. These searches may use authors, titles, topics, and preferences derived from your library or archived rating history. Apple Books requests also include a country or region derived from your device locale. Online suggestions can load when you use the Picks screen; you do not have to manually type each query.
These services receive search terms and ordinary network information, including your IP address. Their handling and retention of requests are governed by their own privacy practices. ChapterKeep does not send your imported audio files with these searches.
External book services
When you use an external book link, the selected website or app receives the book URL or search terms and ordinary connection information. Fable lookup also sends a title-and-author query to Fable’s search service before opening a matching page or search page.
External services include StoryGraph, Goodreads, Fable, Hardcover, Open Library, and Google Books. ChapterKeep does not automatically post your ratings or reviews to those services or sign you into their accounts. Any activity after opening them is governed by their own policies.
Exports and sharing
When you export or share information, the selected files or content go to the location, app, or person you choose. ChapterKeep does not control those recipients’ storage or privacy practices.
Support messages
If you contact the developer, your email address and the information you provide will be used to respond to your request and troubleshoot the issue. Email is processed by the email services used to send and receive the message. Please avoid including sensitive information or audiobook files.
Retention and deletion
Library information is retained locally until you remove it or remove the app and its local data. Removing a book can preserve an archived record of its rating, review, and other library details. You can delete that record separately in Settings → Rating history. Exports, backups, support emails, and iCloud records are separate copies and are not erased by deleting a book.
To request deletion of information you sent directly to the developer, use the contact below. The developer cannot remove copies held independently by an external service or recipient; contact that service or use its own account controls.
Your choices
- Use imported audiobooks offline after importing.
- Disable listening-position sync in Settings.
- Avoid online discovery, cover searches, and external links if you do not want to send queries to those services.
- Remove local books and archived records, and choose what you export or share.
This website
The providers hosting this website process ordinary request information, such as IP addresses and requested URLs, to deliver and protect the site. If you use the website’s contact form, your name, email address, and message are saved in the website’s private inbox, and an email notification may be sent to the developer. These support records are separate from your ChapterKeep library. You can request deletion using the contact below.
