Duality

Duality (2010) brings together black-and-white multiple exposures made through a combination of 35mm film and digital editing. Images overlap within a single frame, allowing separate moments to occupy the same space. Each exposure records something, but also interrupts what is already there.

Working between film and digital processes, the series explores the photograph as both a record and a construction. Light leaves a physical trace on film; digital editing offers another space in which those traces can be layered and reconfigured. Neither process stands entirely apart from the other. Together, they create images that move between recognition and uncertainty.

The title suggests a pair, but the relationship between the overlapping images is not necessarily one of opposition. They can reinforce, obscure, or complicate one another. Looking becomes a process of separating and reconnecting: trying to hold one image in focus while remaining aware of another. Duality asks what happens when a photograph offers more than one way of seeing, without resolving them into a single account.
